In school, we were taught that we have five sensory organs: eyes, ears, nose, tongue, and skin. But what if there were more? Now we know that the RCPM muscle, one of the sub-occipital muscles, is more of a sensory organ than a skeletal muscle. Scientists tell us that it has more nerve endings per square centimeter than any other part of our body.

When you bend your head forward at a 45-degree angle, the amount of tension it exerts on your neck increases to nearly 50 pounds of force on this area, also affecting this "sensory organ." Due to our increasing dependence on smartphones and digital devices, this "tech neck" epidemic is on the rise across all age groups. Our hypothesis is that due to the increased burden on our neck, these muscles become more tense, and therefor compromising their sensory organ function.
